Extremist leaders and organizations abuse individuals and families and tear at the fabric of society. Regardless of doctrine, extremist organizations and movements — e.g., religious cults, violent street gangs, terrorist groups and racist movements — use common methods of manipulating, recruiting, controlling and taking advantage of vulnerable people.
In the past, extremist organizations had fewer routes for gaining influence among the public. Today, digital technology allows these groups to reach and manipulate much larger segments of the public, to target specific vulnerable groups with propaganda and disinformation, and to operate in decentralized networks.
We are here to change that.
Antidote educates those most at risk and supports those who have been harmed by tactics of psychological manipulation.
We are building the world’s most comprehensive database of resources that provide direct services for those who need help leaving cults, hate groups, terrorist groups – both domestic and foreign – as well as various other situations in which psychological manipulation is being used to control the lives of its adherents.
Antidote sees the problem of psychological manipulation as a public health problem. Leaders and groups that take advantage of human vulnerability, by using psychologically controlling tactics, pose the gravest of human threats.
Like any public health approach, we must focus on prevention. At the same time, we must find ways to care for those directly affected. Antidote does both.
